Flu Vaccinations for Children

Children below the age of 12 must have a prescription from their attending physician in order to receive a flu shot.

  1. If the prescription from the attending physician contains a specific dosage of flu vaccine, our nurses will follow that prescription.
  2. If the prescription from the attending physician does not contain specific dosage information, we will follow the dosage guidelines below:

-6 months to 35 months

  • 0.25 ml IM x (1) one dose if the child has had a flu vaccine in the past.
  • 0.2 5ml IM x (2) two doses at least 1 month apart if the child is receiving the vaccine for the first time.

-Child 3 to 8 years

  • 0.5 ml IM x (1) one dose if the child has had a flu vaccine in the past.
  • 0.5 ml IM x (2) two doses at least 1 month apart if the child is receiving the vaccine for the first time.

-Greater than 9 years old

  • 0.5 ml IM x (1) one dose
