Vestibular, (inner ear) Disorders

These disorders of the inner ear can cause dizziness and/or imbalance. One of the most common disorders in this group is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). This presents with dizziness when laying down or sitting back up. Looking up or bending over may also provoke dizziness. Some forms of dizziness are caused by calcium crystals dislodged from their normal place and floating free as debris in the inner ear. BPPV and other disorders can be treated successfully with physical therapy. It is important to have a physician examine you first to screen for inner ear disorders versus other causes of dizziness and imbalance.
